The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I mean, I know it was my option to learn, but I actually thought youd have one thing attention-grabbing to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you possibly can fix if you happen to werent too busy looking for attention.

I also love the idea of recruiting men in the kitchen. There is still such a stigma about men in the kitchen, which needs to be changed. Given that both parents usually work out of the home, its no surprise that kids are now obese, after a long day of work cooking a nutritious meal is often last on a working mom or dads agenda.

Cooking and eating together as a family is a great idea because it fosters communication and teaches children the importance of nutrition. However, I hate Pollan's love for moral panic mongering. "The rise of fast food and the collapse of everyday cooking...has damaged family life and community by undermining the institution of the shared meal." By all objective measures, the family is a lot stronger than it was half a century ago before fast food. Parents spend more hours per day playing with their children (partly because the modern convenience of food preparation gives them more time to do so). Education is up; crime, tobacco/drug use, and teen pregnancy are down. And even though every newspaper and magazine screams "Obesity Epidemic!" the average life expectancy in the US has climbed 15 years since 1950.

So yes, cooking at home is good. It's fun and keeps you healthy. But no, the family is not crumbling at the foundations because Mom orders from Pizza Hut on Friday nights.
