I agree with most of the food trends predicted for next year. People want to try out dishes which have special spices from different cultures. My gut feeling says that ethnic food experience and “I am a chef” will be the top food trends. I have been trying to achieve both these by trying to track some recipes which are easy to make at home and involve some very ethnic ingredients. I came across these really easy to make recipes on this site www.jehnagirmehta.com. The chef, Chef Mehta, is known for his eclectic cuisines and use of spices. His approach to cooking is simple and precise.

I agree with all of those trends, and in particular the "I'm a chef" and "the ethnic experience" trends. Actually, judging by the large range of ethnic food ingredients available in regular supermarkets these days, those two trends are definitely converging.

I love making my own ethnic meals (because they're generally very tasty and also very healthy), but I remember it wasn't that many years ago that stocking up on ingredients like good quality extra virgin olive oil or nori sheets for sushi rolls meant having to drive all around town visiting different delicatessens, specialty shops and Asian grocers. Thankfully times have changed!

Very informative and practical site by the way. :)

Even in the desert a garden is possible! My two girls (4 and 6 years old) and I have babied our tiny oasis in Las Vegas since March. The herbs are beautiful and have sparked an interest in foods they would have never tried before. Now we're waiting for our first zucchini and snap peas. What a fun way to learn about food!

I started a garden this year with my kids. We were motivated, in part, by Michelle Obama. I told my boys, "If Michelle can do it, so can we!" So far, we're enjoying lots of great salads compliments of our garden. Other things we're growing include tomatoes, beets, sugar snap peas, green beans (though some bugs have been nibbling on the leaves), herbs, carrots, and sunflowers.
